Walmart Deal: Save $20 on Pikmin 4, Upgrade to Switch 2 for $10

Walmart has reduced the price of the digital version of Pikmin 4 for the Nintendo Switch, offering a significant saving for players ahead of the console’s successor launch. According to The Verge, the title is currently listed at $39.88, which represents a discount of just over $20 compared to its standard retail price. This promotion allows immediate access to the game with instant digital delivery.

The pricing strategy aligns with Nintendo’s recent announcement regarding the upcoming Switch 2 platform. The company confirmed that a dedicated version of Pikmin 4 will arrive on 12 November 2026. This future release includes visual improvements, voice commands for the dog companion, and a new gameplay mode called Dandori Academy. Buying the current discounted version provides a cheaper route to this upgraded experience.

What we know

The Verge reports that the base Switch game is priced at approximately $40 in this offer. The upgrade path to the Switch 2 Edition costs only $10. This combination saves consumers $20 compared to purchasing the Switch 2 Edition outright at its listed price of $69.99. The discount applies specifically to the digital version sold through Walmart, providing instant access rather than physical media shipment.

Defender's checklist

• Verify the total cost including taxes and any platform fees before completing the digital purchase.
• Check whether your existing Nintendo account is linked correctly to ensure seamless game delivery.
• Confirm that your current console firmware is updated to support the latest digital store features.
• Review the refund policy for digital software in case of technical issues or accidental purchases.

The background in plain language

Understanding this news requires knowing how digital game licensing works. When you buy a digital game, you are often purchasing a license to play a specific version on a specific hardware generation. Upgrades to next-generation consoles are not always free. Publishers frequently offer discounted upgrade paths to retain customers who bought the previous version. This model encourages early adoption of the older hardware while securing future revenue from the newer platform. Teams usually advise checking these upgrade costs before buying the base game, as the total lifetime expense can vary significantly.

What to do and how to stay safe: Nintendo

• Compare the total cost of the discounted Switch version plus the upgrade fee against the full price of the Switch 2 version when it launches.
• Check your current Nintendo Switch system settings to ensure you have sufficient storage space for the digital download.
• Monitor official Nintendo channels for any changes to the upgrade eligibility terms or launch dates.
• Keep your payment methods updated in your account to avoid failed transactions if you decide to complete the purchase.
