Google Play discounts feature Lara Croft GO and free RPG titles this week

Google Play is offering a selection of discounted applications and games, including titles such as Lara Croft GO and various role-playing games, alongside hardware deals. According to 9to5Google, these promotions are available for mid-week shoppers looking to acquire new software or devices at reduced rates.

The deals extend beyond software to include significant hardware savings. Shoppers can find the Galaxy Z Fold 8 with discounts reaching $580, the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K at $30, and the LG C6 OLED TV reduced by $1,000 from its launch price. These offers target consumers interested in both mobile entertainment and home technology upgrades.

What we know

The software deals include several titles that are currently free or priced well below their standard cost. Final Chronicle is listed at $1.25, down from $3. Digital Gates: AI COMPANIONS is free, having previously cost $8.50. Chits – Chat Notes & Boards is available for $0.75, half its regular price of $1.50.

Other free offerings include Spin Miner: Idle Gold Tycoon, Cosmo Glide, Hope Island, Space Survival, Exile, and DINOTILE. Mekaro: Open World Mech RPG is also free, reduced from $3.50. Buff Knight: Retro Runner RPG is discounted to $0.50 from its usual $2 price point.

The hardware promotions are tied to specific retailers and conditions. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 discount of up to $580 applies to 512GB open-box units at Best Buy. Another listing shows the foldable phone up to $570 off for 'Excellent' condition open-box items. The Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K is at 50% off, hitting its lowest recorded price.

The LG C6 OLED TV is being promoted with a $1,000 reduction from its 2026 launch price on Amazon. This discount is positioned ahead of upcoming game releases such as GTA VI and Zelda. New Galaxy Tab S12 launch deals are also ending soon, offering over $550 off with trades and free Amazon credit.

Defender's checklist

• Verify that any app downloaded is from the official developer to avoid counterfeit software.
• Check the permissions requested by free apps to ensure they match the app's core functionality.
• Review the terms of any hardware trade-in offers to understand the condition requirements for discounts.
• Confirm the final price at checkout, including taxes and shipping, to ensure the deal is still valid.

The background in plain language

Organisations and individuals often monitor promotional cycles to optimise spending on digital tools. When software is offered for free or at a steep discount, it provides an opportunity to trial new applications without long-term commitment. Teams usually evaluate whether these temporary offers align with their current workflow needs or entertainment preferences before downloading. It is important to distinguish between genuine promotional pricing and limited-time trials that may require future payments.

What to do and how to stay safe: Google Play

• Check the app store listing for the last update date to ensure the software is actively maintained.
• Read recent user reviews to identify any potential issues with the current version of the app.
• Ensure your device has sufficient storage space before installing multiple new applications.
• Review your account payment methods to avoid accidental subscriptions if the free offer converts to a trial.
